[Hello, Far Shore!

Here's your resident redhaired librarian who greets everyone with a slight smile and a wave.]

Hey, everyone. I've noticed there's been quite a few people here who are either illiterate or mute [Selectively mute, anyway] so I've decided to find a way where it might be easier to communicate.

I'll be teaching sign language for anyone who's interested and I'm also offering to help anyone who would like to learn how to read. So far, these will be initially taught at the library or I can even do private tutoring sessions for anyone as well. If you also know people who are interested, spread the word.

And for those who doesn't know me yet, the name's Lavi.

A new language? That sounds incredible - how did you go about creating something like that, Lavi?

I didn't create it. It seems to be something I learned, though.

But if they're illiterate and mute, how is there a language?

[He gets verbal-only, that's how he learned after all, but the mute part on top of it strikes him as a particular limitation.]

Sign language uses gestures to signify meanings. Not every language is verbal - just like how Braille isn't verbal as well.

I have no idea what Braille is either.

Braille is the kind of language system for those who are blind in which they usually have to be able to read with their fingers.

[A brief pause before he shows Yoon a Braille chart.]

It's generally embedded into a surface with these dots so those who are visually impaired can still read.

That looks more like ways to count mathematically than a language... they can really read that with their fingers? Amazing...

[He might be more interested in Braille now.]

Do you prefer learning this instead?

Well I haven't actually tried to learn either yet so I couldn't tell you that.
