[Hello, this is Souji leaning in close toward the camera with an intensely thoughtful expression.]
So! I have a really important question.
[He's clearly thinking very seriously about it, whatever it is. So it's probably pretty important, right?
Wait for it.
Waaaait.]
Do you think kittens would get along well with ducks?
[Yeah.]

No.
[There. Settled, yes?]
Video
So, does that mean "no, they wouldn't get along" or just... "no" in general?
[Asking innocently because look, miser, he's not putting up with the latter.]

[At length, and with an aggressive air of finality, he speaks.]
Both.

But people have cats together with all kinds of animals, right? Anyway, I thought cats growing up with ducks wouldn't be too bothered by them.
[So reasonable. And yes, he's ignoring Hijikata's other "no".]

[He turns his camera on four tiny, adorable kittens for a moment.]
They're a lot smaller than the ducks. I don't think they could eat that much.
no subject
Um. Good point. Are the ducks going to bully them, though?
[Because if you don't have bread, ducks can be mean....]

["Pushy" here being code word for "spoiled rotten". He laughs a bit sheepishly.]
They'll try to steal your food if you're not careful, that kind of thing. But they're really very sweet otherwise, and not particularly aggressive... [...for ducks.]

Probably if they were raised together from really young it'd be fine.

[Around four weeks or so, not that Souji can tell.]
The ducks have all grown up by now, except a couple of them have ducklings now.

[But, still, it's a question worth pondering, and the result of said pondering is undeniably cute, so...]
I guess they could be, are you going to try getting a kitten to befriend some ducks?
no subject
[As one does. Also by "a lot" he means "over 200".]
And I just found these kittens that look like they need a home, so I thought I'd ask what people thought about introducing them to our ducks.

[He beams.] But it does sound pretty adorable, right?

(it's okay, they were little ducks, so it was just very surprising)
also the kittens didn't want to follow them into any water so they could run away if they wanted (*^-‘) 乃
they were really good friends, though! i found them sleeping together a lot (*゚艸゚)

(ᗒᗨᗕ) can i come visit???
[He lives in a shrine with over 200 rainbow colored ducks, but yes, this is still the first question he asks.]
anyway thats good to hear!!!!
i was planning on keeping an eye on them anyway
most of our ducks are pretty big right now so i dont want them to bully the kittens (*・艸・)
no subject
but i still have lots of kittens! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و✧ i have five and a puppy and some fish and they all like making new friends~
oh no, i hope they don't either. i hope your ducks see them as really weird ducklings and take care of them instead~
oh but imagine if they taught your kittens to follow them around like ducklings (*≧▽≦)ノシ))

i got the ducklings for our shrine too |▽//)ゝ
my god grumbled about it for a while but he secretly likes them
your shrine still sounds like a lovely place in that case!!!
i think i will definitely visit
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i hope that too it would be so adorable б(>ε<)∂

The cats I've had at my temple have gotten along pretty well with all sorts of other animals that have come and gone, for the most part?
But I think it just largely depends on both the cat and the duck in question. A kitten might trigger a nesting instinct in an adult duck, for example.
video
[He remembers too, although he categorically tries not to think about the things that happened back then. Because he doesn't like thinking about things that worry him.]
Our ducks are usually pretty calm, and they don't mind strange people petting them, things like that... But I guess they've never met any kittens before, so I'm not sure.

If you wanted to gauge whether they would handle a kitten, or a few kittens, well, you could probably put some kind of barrier between them. Like putting them in a pen and placing a gate between the two sides.
It'd give them a chance to see and smell each other, but no one gets hurt.

pretend this is smalltext why not also: video
See? Sensible. Sort of.

[He shrugs and smiles.]
And our ducks haven't been hunted either. Maybe they'll still react instinctively, but I'll try to keep an eye on them all.
...After all, I don't want to miss anything cute!

Viktor. You know nothing about birds aside from the fact that you like them and chase them on the beach.

[A short youtube search later...]
But you might want to keep an eye on them if they start playing rough with each other.
