Hey! Um... so I've been thinking about this for a couple of days, but I heard....

[He trails off before regrouping. He should've rehearsed this before he started recording it, but he's got no idea how to go back and delete and re-record now. Onward!]

I heard I used to be a god! I mean, I don't remember, obviously, but if I really was, I guess I should say I'm sorry. And I look forward to meeting you all again. And, um.

[Really should have rehearsed.]

I don't owe anybody money, right?

[He laughs uncomfortably and rushes ahead.]

-- Anyway I guess that's about it! Nice to meet you all again! Sorry I forgot!

[Nailed it. Before he can think better of this whole idea, he hastily stops the recording and hits send.]

[Any, actually. Sakura's been taking care of that kind of thing and Tsuzuki just hasn't worried about it.]

Anyway, that was a joke! I probably don't!

[Because he's sure he was a responsible god who was really good with his funds and never borrowed any! ... He hopes.]

It sounded like something you're actually worried about.

If there was enough space between your disappearance and arrival they shouldn't be expecting any money back.

I mean, I don't know how long it was, or anything like that....

[Ahem. Anyway.]

But if I don't remember any of it I can't pay them back anyway, so they'll just have to deal with it! I mean, if there was anybody.

No. I've never heard or seen you before.

I wouldn't be lending people money anyway.

I wasn't going to ask! Nice to meet you, though. I guess.

You're, um. [He squints at the screen.] Akemi?

My name is Homura Akemi. Should I call you Tsuzuki?

[sweetdeath]

Homura! Okay. Asato's fine, you don't need to be formal. So are you a shinki?

[It's kind of a relief to be talking to someone who doesn't secretly know him. They can make friends fair and square this way.]

I am.

You can tell because shinki have their full names as their usernames on the BBS.

Gods use their god names.

Oh, is that what that means? I thought they must've picked it.

[He hadn't picked his, but then, he's just using his real name... so.]

Although I guess I've got to figure out what's the name of a god and what's the name of a person, in that case....

[Some people around here have weird names! And he hasn't heard of all the gods.]

Mm. They're assigned when we get here

[At least as far as she can tell. She didn't give the phone her name or anything it was just there.]

Most gods only have one name. Izanagi. Amaterasu. Ptah.

When did you become a shinki?

Everybody knows Izanagi and Amaterasu, though.

[Those are big names! Ptah is a little less familiar, and he adds after a moment:]

Some gods have two names too, though. Like Nu... [Crap, what was it?] Nuada Agetamu?

[She only said it once and it was a confusing foreign name! He's trying here.]

Anyway, I'll just look it up if I'm not sure. Thanks.

I got here last week, if that's what you mean. During the big Tanabata festival. I don't know too much about what happened before that, though.

Everyone from Japan does.

[It seems a bit silly to assume everybody is actually from Japan and knows the gods.]

I guess they did. But all shinki are like that, though, right? When we get here that's all we remember?

[So, if he were a god once... wouldn't he forget that just like any shinki forgetting their lives?

That's that thing on the phone that answers questions for you, right? Yeah, I've been using that!

Even if it doesn't help with borderlines or ayakashi.

Yeah, I guess it's just information from the Near Shore.

Hey, so, is there someplace we can find information about borderlines and ayakashi, and that kind of thing? The library was pretty disorganized when I checked it.

Yes. They are.

They don't remember anything.

[ Just like him. He couldn't remember his time as a shinki aside from a single feeling of abandonment. ]

... Do you really think it's because somebody took those memories away?

I was a shinki once.

[ A fact he doesn't usually bring up, but Zero has a soft spot for shinki's. ]

When I became a god, they returned my memories.

If they weren't taken then they couldn't be restored.

Unless it's more like shinki can't remember.

[He's scowling, deep in thought.]

I mean -- like if being a shinki makes it impossible? Nobody took them away, you just can't get to them, but when you're a god you can.

Do you remember being here before? Being a shinki?

No one knows so you can think what you want.

[ But in his world, memories are something that can be stolen, and he suspects it's happened to him. It has. ]

I don't remember anything from that time. All that I know is from what people told me.

[ And when you attack people, they're sure to remind you. ]
