[It's not even that good of a warning; Zeno's reflexes aren't fast enough for him to get beyond "Oh n--" before he screams in pain. Not the first time he's had something sharp pierce his brain stem. His hand fumbles, not sure if he wants to try and yank the weapon out or clutch at the golden dragon pendant swinging and jingling with the impact.

It's a good wound, deep and sticky, and his vision swims and darkens as his brain starts to shut down. Because it's so close to his ears he can hear the wet, squelching sounds of the tissue trying to repair itself, but so far from home, it's slow, and he loses his balance, falling unconscious to the ground.]

[ Jay's out of his hidey-hole just a second after the knife leaves his hand -- if it doesn't fly true, then he needs to be close enough to his target to take them down manually. But that turns out to be unnecessary -- Zeno sways, then falls, and Jay allows himself a brief moment of pride in the accuracy of his throw. Hail Tot.

He needs to brace one foot against Zeno's head to hold the body still enough to pull his knife free, but then the evidence is removed. Without so much as a backward glance Jay heads off deeper into the woods, already choosing his footing carefully to hide his true footprints from any investigators.

He'll keep his promise, though. In a few days, he'll see if anyone remembers the name 'Zeno'. It's the least he can do. ]
