Everyone is different, but I would say... just be there for them. Listen to their problems, do your best to help, and even when you can't do anything to help, make sure they know you'll always support them. Just knowing that can go a long way.

The best thing in that case is a sincere apology. But it may take some time before they're willing to hear it, depending on how deeply you hurt them.

It's hard to say without knowing what happened, but if it were someone I were truly close with... I'd want to believe in them and forgive them.
