I've been holding off making any posts of my own on this network, but I have a small question that's been eating at me since I came here.

These powers we have, do any of you find yours to be particularly useful for the kind of prayers you fall into? I'm just curious.

Mine can be useful for the ones that don't end up involving ayakashi. It can work to my advantage in a fight or an emergency, too, but it's particularly well-suited for use on people who've prayed for strength or similar.

Strength actually sounds useful.
How many soldiers, wrestlers, or athletes do you wind up hearing prayers for with something like that?

More than a few. I can't give physical strength directly, but I can grant them the willpower to push themselves as far as they want to. It works out.

As far as they want sounds like a lot for some people.

Say, can you grant that to other gods or shinki?

It's useful in theory, but the person I'm working with has to be at least as strong as me or it's dangerous.

Yeah. I don't use it much because of that.

I'm lucky Todoroki is as strong as me though.

That's definitely lucky.

I guess whichever mook in heaven sorts us all out chose wisely when they paired you up.

So you're super strong, I assume, and not carting around the power to make the bones of other people feeble?

I'm happy to be working with him. Whoever paired us up, I'm grateful.

So when we say 'super strong', are we talking Superman strong or peak performance athlete strong?

There's a major difference there, and one is waaaay cooler than the other.

Like Superman strong. Superpowers are pretty normal at home. One of my friends can turn off gravity after touching an object.

Well, I guess super strength comes at a hefty price?!
I could mend a scuff or two but broken bone is probably out of the question.
How about just half your strength?

I can use five percent safely. It's still pretty powerful.

Not for killing demons or the like.

Mine seems less like a power and more like an inconvenience if I'm being honest.

How so? What does it do? Maybe you just need a new perspective and to get a little creative.

It's more of a poison.

[That's...technically not a lie. One does not simply come out and tell people about their secret seduction touch.]

I wear gloves all the time because it's in my skin and I can't turn it off.

Are you not immune to your own abilities, or something? That's a load of crap.

[He thinks?? Now he's thinking about that and wondering really hard.]

But touching people is at least 60% of how I communicate, it's cruel and unusual.

I guess gloves might be the best you can do at the moment. If you could just get ones that were easier to remove, that'd help. Since I know that, sometimes, during a fight, you'd have to stop and communicate with an ally. I can't really suggest you go solo all the time, because things just don't work that way here.

I can't really stop those big monsters with my good looks alone, no. So far it's all opera gloves all the time for me.

That's my situation, though. Maybe I'll stick to simple wishes and see where it all goes. I'll probably figure it out when I need to.

I understand about having to try and find ways to fill in for what you lack, though. I hope I was of some assistance, at least.

Granted I've only been here long enough to answer a couple of prayers, so my experience might not be what you're looking for.

Don't discount yourself, I haven't been here that long either.

The more I've been talking about it, the more I'm starting to get the idea that most of us are just improvising anyway.

Improvising is right. The older gods don't exactly give us a lot to go on, do they? 'Here you are, you're a god now, have fun with that and try not to ruin everything!'

But now I'm curious: what 'power' were you given?

I don't mind them so long as they don't go peering over our shoulders, but a little direction would be nice.

What does it do? If I touch someone they get a dose of something awful. I've just been calling it a poison. Point is, I wear gloves because, boy, that's inconvenient.

[Close enough. Until such a time comes that he can call it an aphrodisiac without it being awkward, it's always going to be a poison.]

You're the reincarnation of Venus and you poison people. That seems odd. Hopefully there's a way you can learn to control it.

Maybe whomever decides these things thought they'd take the phrase 'love-sick' literally.

If you ever poison someone by accident I might be able to help. My ability lets me lessen injuries and pain. I might not be able to remove the poison but I believe I could help reduce the symptoms.

I wish I could tell you more, but I think your god might be one of, if not the only person who can help you figure out what that is.

At least you're enjoying yourself. Any tips or tricks I should know about that you feel inclined to share?

Weaker gods have been known to team up with stronger ones in order to answer prayers. May help if you're not feeling useful.

Also know that your shinki can be summoned from beyond speaking range. Why, even from the Far Shore to the Near Shore!

[That last bit is a lie. They at least need to be on the same Shore for the call.]

This seems to be an issue that relates to those that are replacing the gods of old. With traditional gods- their powers are crafted to serve the wishes that gave birth to them.

So what you're saying is I should start answering prayers the old Venus would, because my power should be more suited to that by default?

At least that is how it used to be. For example my Goddess Bishamonten is naturally suited to help with prayers that relate to battle. People pray to her for success and protection.
