Hello to whomever might be reading this. My given name is Lara, and I am the current incarnation of Athena.

I've gathered I am not the first to bear her name, and I'd be interested in learning more about my predecessor. What sort of god was he/she? As I've begun settling into her temple here, I've found quite a lot of things that they probably left behind, and I also thought that perhaps it would be right to return them if any were on loan.

And I would also like to ask about the community's feelings on something. Truth be told, I've only recently begun to accept that the supernatural is real and there might be a higher power(s) at work. At least, until I woke up here and was hit in the face with it. It's a lot to absorb.

I'm feeling a touch overwhelmed and I'd like to know what role you believe a god should play. I've my own ideas, naturally, but I'm curious what others think. Do you want to live up to the legends of who came before? Do you want to change those legends into something else? Or is there something else you believe about divinity? I'm curious, so please, let me know your thoughts. It may help me better sort out my own.

Ah, so he is to be replaced after all. [ And he's not sure how to feel about that, but, moving on… ]
But, to answer your first question: I have had the pleasure of his acquaintance previously, and have as a matter of fact come into possession with a few of his books, which I should return to you presently.
As for your second question…I do believe that that is out of my place as shinki to reply. [ Although he has his own ideas, and they may or may not involve aristocracies and etiquette training and feudalistic household management. ]

I'd rather not think of myself as replacing anyone. I'd prefer to think of it as fulfilling his duties while he goes back to his old life. He sounds well-liked, though and I hope I'll be able to prove worthy of the mantle.

As for the books, I'd happily take them back or leave them on loan if you've not finished them. I've yet to take an inventory, but it is on my list of priorities.

Would you be willing to talk about your relationship with him? I'd be interested in knowing what you did with him, what he was like, and if you ever worked with him on any of our shared duties? I don't want to throw out too much of his stuff or step on too many toes as I settle in.

Well, regardless of your approach, the previous Athena has indeed left a gap in our pantheon that sorely needs filling. I suppose you have some expertise in the medical field? The late Master Tenpou had been most instructive to me in the healing arts, although I am afraid that our relationship was but a professional one, in the end.
But I am not his shinki, I am sorry to say. For as long as I’ve known him he merely had a mere soulless one to attend to his divine occupations, so I cannot elaborate further in that regard.
And…oh, yes. I will return the books to you as soon as possible.

Expertise might be a strong word. I'm familiar with field medicine, but that's more about getting you back on your feet till you can get proper care. I'm an archaeologist by training, but I had the good fortune of having a former soldier teach me the ins and outs prior to my first real expedition.

Battlefield medicine is better than none though, at the least.

Hopefully you'll never need to be put in my care. I'm not terribly familiar with anesthetics, so my treatments are a little rough unless certain herbs are available.

But if you're interested in learning more, I'd be happy to teach what I can.

I know some healing magic, and I am quite well-versed in housekeeping as well as some martial arts.

Well I'm hardly omniscient. Or magically inclined. Magic doesn't exist where I'm from, so I doubt I have the knack for it.

Martial arts, however, I could always benefit from.

But you are a god, nevertheless, and a knowledge of the arcane will hardly be a disservice to you.
Regardless, it is not my place to advise you on that point.
I will teach you what I know, in exchange for what I might learn from you.

Fair point though, place or not. You remind me of a family friend, in that regard.

I'd be most interested in studying the arcane on my own at first, though. With new subjects I find that works best for me. Perhaps after a little time, I could compare what I've come up with to what you know?
