just checking!

has anyone ever heard of a god's temple not letting people in? making them feel unwelcome. that kind of thing.

how do you fix it?

great, send me over some directions and i'll be there in two shakes.

[ next message is a photo of a quickly drawn map, and directions in relation to few other temples ]

[Axel doesn't mind the chance to stretch his legs, and even if the map is sketchy it's pretty easy to follow. He's gotten directions to other temples, too, and he can use that to place the directions Genos is giving him.

It's about a half-hour walk, it turns out. He raps his knuckles against the side of the gate when he arrives.

It looks less like a temple and more like a two-story house, he concludes, and waits to see if anyone shows up.]

Hey there! Anyone home?

[ The door open on it's own before even Genos manages to make it down the stairs. God of hospitality's place seems to live to it's owner name, and is inviting a guest on it's own. ]

Enter. [ He says a bit louder than he should and makes it down to the door. ] You're Aphrodite's shinki, right?

[ Really, only one person who could visit right now, but he wants to make sure ]

Axel.

[Axel cranes his neck, checking around the corner of the door. Nope, there's no one back there. It definitely did open on its own.

Magic. Whee. He turns back to the other man and offers his hand.]

Good to meet you. Thanks for the help, by the way.

Genos. [ Right introduction time. He has a second of hesitation before he accepts the handshake. Despite his arms being covered mostly in metal plating, the palm side of his hand is made of softer material. Probably to make holding and manipulating things easier. ]

Here's the book. [ he offers a massive book on Greek Mythos ] Looks like previous owner of my room was a researcher of sort.

Convenient! [Axel accepts the book, tucking it under one arm. It's got to be ten pounds if it's an ounce.

He eyes Genos's metal-plated arms curiously.]

Is that armor or what?

No, that's my body. [ and knowing that's not really a good explanation he adds ] I'm a cyborg. Looks like it carried over here.

Huh! Interesting. Stronger, faster, et cetera?

[The weird thing is that it carried over. You'd think the dead would get all their limbs back in the original condition no matter what happened.]

And with a bit of fire. [ Genos nods and shows his palm up. The port on the middle of it lights up and lets out a small flame, that is immediately put out ] Among other things.

Heyyy, nice. Does that scale up to flamethrower or are you stuck at cigarette lighter?

[It's funny how many people here have fire powers. This makes three Axel knows so far. Maybe it's just a common god thing? -- And shinki, for that matter.]

Flamethrowers, explosions, take your pick. There is probably an upper limit, but it's hard to test out.

[ He accidentally set a small park on fire... that probably shouldn't be something to mention around, though ]

Ve- ry nice. [Axel chuckles, casually opening his own hand on a small burst of flame and closing it again.]

It's good to meet a fellow cigarette lighter type.

You can do this without any augmentations? [ And now Genos is wide eyed and surprised ]

Sure. It's not a machine, it's just a skill.

[Axel shrugs.]

I do fire. Guess it's a shinki thing, having some kind of talent like that. You should have one too.

Probably. I'm still learning about this shinki deal.

Tell me about it. I never thought being dead was going to be this complicated.

It's a lot of work, and no one running this shit-show, thinks it's good idea to fill participants in.

[ Oh is that complaining time? He's kinda bitter he had to hunt down every scrap of information. Including those vital for survival he wish he knew before all that blight business. ]

With that little prank they pulled on us on day one, I'd bet they don't really care if we sink or swim.

Nice to see a few people have thought to put information up on the BBS, though. How much of that do you think we can trust?

[Axel's smirk isn't particularly humorous. Of course the Heavens are out to get them. He wouldn't have expected too many people to be on his side.]

The guides were helpful, but it's an open net. How much you'd be willing to share there? [ as newbies they're kinda lucky they don't even have that much information on their hands. But there are still things that seems too private to disclose publicly ]

It's probably safe to assume that the admins are affiliated with those who run this place.

If we're talking common knowledge, you won't lose too much from sharing it all. Who knows how many of the old guard are working with the people who run the joint, though?

Or working for them, anyway.

[Axel shrugs. There are getting to be too many of them to keep them from figuring out things that are common knowledge, so he doubts anything like that is on the don't-tell-the-newbies list. Who knows what might be going on in the background here, though? The Heavens seem pretty fond of messing with them so far.]

Time will tell. Guess we can only be careful for now. [ And observant. ]

That never hurts.

Anyway, thanks for the book! [He hefts it back under his arm -- the damn thing's made of lead, he's sure of it -- and offers a brief smile.] When do you need it back?

[ Genos just shrugs ] It might take a while to get through it, so take your time.

If I happen to suddenly need it, I'll just drop you a note. [ Either online, or he'll stalk the Aphrodite temple. ]

Got it. Thanks again.

[With a casual wave, Axel turns to head away. He's got a date with a library and his goddess.]
