since i guess i actually sucj at this, i'ma sking you all for help. how do you change ypur name? i don't mean the one that changes you, i mean the nolmal on2e. i can't find one that really sounds right for me.

is there a better way than just goibg through lists of names?

I'm just commenting so I remember to come back and check the answers to this. My name's pretty lame too if I really think about it. At first I didn't even question it though.

what my shinki is trying to say is he needs a new human name! not a vessel name!

i guess the best way is finding names that sound the best but...

A name is not a thing that should be chosen by its bearer.

A name is a gift to be given by someone who cares for you. It should not be changed on a whim.

Why would your shinki be in need of a name? Is his current name not sufficient?

so i should pick the name for him? well... he kind of doesn't like anything i pick. that's why i thought i might fish around for more ideas!

Parents put a lot of thought into their children's names. It is not merely a matter of liking a name and is not a thing to be decided lightly. Being unsure is natural.

What kind of a man is your shinki? That may serve as a guide.

hmm... he's strong and he cares about his close friends and he likes to learn and be the best he can be when he learns things. he's really proud of the things he does too. oh and he's really determined and i don't know anyone more protective than he is!

But Sora does care about Riku! So if anyone was going to help him pick one, I think Sora's a good person for that. As for new names... I can think of other reasons why people want to change their names, but I don't think that's true here. Riku's friends probably know why and that's okay if he doesn't want to share it.

That is good, and a close friend can sometimes see what a parent cannot.

Riku seems a fine name, though. Is it truly unsuitable?

Well, I don't think it's a bad name at all, really. But he says it's how you can says his vessel name too. So maybe he doesn't like that anymore? People change. It's just not for us to decide for him, I don't think.

Would that prove dangerous to him? Would that not make having a vessel name more convenient? Or is it more confusing?

I don't know about dangerous, but as a shinki... I think it would get a little confusing? Our real names and vessel names are used to get us in and out of our two forms, so if our God can call one name and mean both... I don't know what that would do to the magic spells that do that to us?

That sounds as if it might make it impossible for you to be called by name.

Then changing the one that can be changed would be sensible. I do not know if I would quite like it, but if your friend is not upset by the change then it may be the only way forward.

I guess if you really feel strongly about changing your name... But I don't think you should have to if you don't want to. Brandon Ikki Liam Ryo Tobias Ishi or maybe Ishiyo Darren Or better yet find two parts you like and just kind of put them together! It's your name so you should like it. Like take "Cole" and add "an" to it! ... Okay maybe not that one. Brandon and Lance could be "Brance" or maybe "Briam" with Liam? Kouta and Tobias could be Kotias! Keishi? Keikki? I hope you it makes you feel better, either way.

That seems like a real shame, to not like your name... I guess I'd hate for you to keep using it if that's the case. Brandon's nice and easy to say too - same number of syllables as Riku!

Well names have meanings! so iff you can find something that means something to you then you can pick a name that way! It's like working backwards!

Yours means "land" right now! What do you think about that?

The traditional method for shinki is to use the same character as your vessel name as part of the name you're called.

not really. i go by riku, but thats the same way my vessel name reads.

You may just be stuck with that name. After all, if it's the one your god gave you, I'm not sure you can change it that easily.

There's nothing wrong with a nickname, though.
