Yuya Sakaki is gone.

It's one more name to add to the list of people who disappeared recently. But I still want to believe that those who disappeared will show up here again. In fact, Yuya had vanished once before but came back after some time.

[And now he's gone again.

Yuto sighs, struggling to keep himself calm and collected. Yuya is gone again and Yuto feels he's failed to keep his god safe, even though he knows he couldn't do anything about that anyway. He's already tried searching for him everywhere, too and it painfully reminded him of the last time when Yuya had suddenly vanished.

And so he tells himself yet again that Yuya will come back, but this is not enough to make him feel any less sad.]

[He's been searching for Yuya for a while now, but it finally dawned on him that his god is nowhere to be found and won't be coming back for now.]

[Sora thinks Yuto should go see Hajime. With Yuuki gone, they need each other.]

[Yuto hesitates a few moments. He was thinking about seeing Hajime, but... now he thinks he should talk to her first instead of appearing at her door and telling her that he doesn't know what to do now. He doesn't want to ask her to take him either. It just doesn't feel right.]

...If you won't mind can I stay with you? I promise I won't stay long. I just some need time to think.

This is something you had no control over. Don't blame yourself for it or linger on it so much that it hurts you. He wouldn't have wanted that either.

I know, but if anything that only shows how little control anyone has over this. Hell, Yuya left the first time as a shinki and came back as a god, that's rare enough. And that's not getting into the other differences.

You're right about that. But...

It's frustrating. I couldn't do anything to protect him and that I can't do anything to get him back.

It is frustrating. I've had at least one person vanish on me recently as well, and it has to be that much worse if it's someone like him. And not even the old gods - or at least, the ones who even associate with us - seem to have any damn clue what's causing it, which only makes it worse.

Even if you can't protect someone from that, you can protect them in other ways. Think about the people you still want to do that for.

So nobody knows anything? I only hope the people who disappeared are all save, wherever they are right now.

[Hoping, believing - that's all they can do.]

And I know. I didn't forget about them. I will do everything I can to protect them...

All of the old gods I've spoken to so far have said they don't know anything about it. Even the ones who'd probably brag about it if they did know anything haven't said a word. There's not much we can do but hope they returned to their own worlds.

That's all anyone can do. Whoever you choose should be grateful to have someone so loyal.

[A bit ironic coming from the person who spurns all gratitude and apologies towards himself as pointless, but it's Yuto. He deserves better than this.]

I see. I suppose it really is all that we can do. But if that's really true, if they really go back to their world then what exactly awaits them there?

Not really. We can never find out unless they tell us themselves, and by the time we start worrying about it it's too late for that. Dwelling on it will only make it harder to keep going.

If I'm talking about gratitude despite how useless I think it is, there is something. With the number of shinki here who stir trouble for the hell of it, refuse to even work alongside a god who wants them as an equal or a friend when anyone decent is as uncomfortable with this as they are, someone who's capable and willing to work with them is something worth that sentiment, however pointless.

The shinki who refuse to do their job are just irresponsible, but I know what you mean. I'll do my best to make myself useful.

[Again? So soon too. Hajime didn't get the chance to talk to Yuya that much but it was easy to tell Yuto was a lot happier with him around. That was the reason she released him to Yuya in the first place. Yuto's happiness was super mega important. Her threads just reaffirm what Yuto is saying. Yuya is gone.]

Yuya seemed like the stubborn type, no way he'll be gone for that long. Stay strong Yuto, okay?

[It takes him a while to reply to Hajime's message, mainly because he's not sure what he wants to write first.]

I'll be fine, Hajime. And I know that he'll be back. I just have to wait, right?

Besides, it doesn't feel right. I left you so I can't keep on relying on you for help. You've helped me too many times already.

[She really is. Which is why Yuto can't return right now. He has to calm down, overcome the sadness that is eating on his heart. He doesn't want to hurt Hajime with his feelings just as much as he doesn't want her to worry about him.]

I don't suppose it is connected to anything else, as far as has been observed, is it? Any activities, objects, or lack thereof?

If it is any consolation, I have seen people disappear and then return. [It wasn't here, but as far as he knew, 'here' and 'there' may very well be the same place, dressed a little differently.]

As far as I know there is no connection to anything. People just suddenly disappear.

And this is actually the second time Yuya disappeared. But thank you. Like I said, I want to believe that he'll return again one day.

Before I was here, I spent a year and a half in a desolate wasteland, where our biggest threat was the possibility of disappearing. 'Becoming mislaid', they'd called it. Not gone, simply 'lost'.

It is distressing to know that can still happen, but sometimes comforting to think that they could return.

I see. I'm not sure if it's any better here since we don't know what is happening with the people who disappeared. When Yuya came back he didn't even know he had been here either.

In any case, I just hope that those who disappeared are safe.
