Thank you to everyone who came to our school's open house, and also to everyone who has stopped by to use the library and start taking classes! We're very happy to have you, and to help you on your learning journey.

Please accept my apologies for being late with the class schedule. It can be found here. Please look it over, so you can decide which classes you'd like to take, or when you'd like to teach your own, if you've been approved to teach a class.

where is your school??

[Why yes, he did just wander around outside before he realized he had no idea where they were.]

[This does not exactly inspire confidence, but she remembers him fondly from when they first met, so she'll let it slide.]

It's the big temple with the columns.

[She attaches a map of their area of Takamagahara, with her temple circled on it.]

[LOOK... he knows his god's quarters like the back of his hand, he just spends most of his time following her around. Like a puppy. Or a particularly stubborn piece of lint.

Regardless, he does know how to navigate, so once he knows where he's going it doesn't take him long to get there. Soon enough, Elsa will see his fluffy head poking around the corner.]

Elsa-san? [He's learned that most gods prefer their "other" names, and since she'd introduced herself as "Elsa" first, that's what he's going with.] Are you busy now?

[Well, he gets here, and that's what's important.

She looks up from where she's making notes at her desk and gives him a smile.]

No. I'm ready and waiting for you. Come on in. I'm glad you found me.

[With a respectful bow, Yamato steps inside, his favorite practice sword resting comfortably at his hip beneath his haori. It would be a lie to say he didn't long for a blade of his own, but it was certainly better than nothing. He hadn't realized how empty his hands had felt until the moment Shepard had tossed him this and asked for his guidance.

That's why he's here, really. It isn't about spending time with his fellow shinki, though he doesn't mind getting to know his comrades. It's about doing what he's comfortable with--about the one thing he knows for a fact he can do very well. Every moment spent with a sword in his hand is another moment he doesn't have to think about his missing memories.]

I haven't spent much time outside of Commander-kun's home. [He admits, looking just a touch embarrassed. Time is a little difficult for him to gauge, but he's certainly been here long enough that he should've gotten some exploring done already. Alas, his clingy tendencies were not lost with his memory, apparently.]

Oh, that's all right. I'm thinking we should make maps of all the temples here anyway. I admit, I spend most of my time here too, so it'd be nice to have a map to rely on.

[Elsa stands and heads over to him, gesturing to the hall.] Let's go into the ballroom. There's enough space there for you to show me what you've got.

[With a nod, she starts to lead the way.

...and if she's honest, she and Hakkai have pretty much agreed a swordfighting class will be a good addition to the curriculum, so this is mostly an opportunity for her to witness a master swordsman at work!]

[And Yamato will follow! Mostly because he doesn't even know what a ballroom is, let alone where to find one...

But he doesn't ask questions, and he doesn't gawk as they make their way through her temple. He's taking all this quite seriously--he needs to make Shepard proud at all times!

(...It is Shepard's name he's upholding, isn't it? Who else could it possibly be?)]

I only know about swords. [He says anxiously, in case she's expecting him to be well-acquainted with anything else. In truth, he only knows about Japanese swords and spears, and he could probably find his way around a bow if he had to, but he hasn't had any reason to try it.] Is that okay? Do you think every shinki will get their own weapons too?

[It's a quick walk to the ballroom, which is vast and well-lit and impeccably clean.]

That's all right. [She glances over her shoulder at him and smiles, walking inside so he can come in as well.] I'm sure we'll be able to find weapons for everyone who wants to learn from you. Wasn't it your Commander Shepard who set up the gym with all those weapons? Maybe she'll let us borrow some for class.

[Yamato does look around once they arrive, but there's a distinctly focused look in his eyes. It isn't so much curiosity, though he's certainly interested--but mostly, he's taking note of where everything is, the amount of space he has to work with and any potential obstacles.

He noticeably perks up at the mention of Shepard, though, nodding and smiling proudly.] Yes, that was Commander-kun's idea. Have you asked her to teach? She's very smart, even when she doesn't make sense.

[Granted, the only things that have made much sense to him here are Tsuzuki's exorcism slips and Otegine's... general existence, but. That's a matter for another time.]

Hmm, I haven't asked her specifically, though Hakkai and I both made announcements to let people know they're all welcome to come here to learn or teach or both.

I think she makes plenty of sense, actually. [There's no sense from Elsa's voice that she's bothered by what Yamato said. She isn't. In fact, she finds his honesty about his opinion refreshing and amusing.]

Actually, that reminds me that we were going to get together for a chat, but we've both been so busy. [Everyone has been, really, with one thing or another.]

Anyway, is this enough space for you? It's more than enough for a full dancing event.

[Now that would be something... Something for another time, though.]

You can start whenever you're ready. There's no rush.

I can ask her about it for you, if you want me to. [They have been busy, it's true. But Yamato's certain Shepard would be an even better teacher than he is. She'll probably see this on her own, but it wouldn't hurt to suggest it when he brings her dinner or something.

As for making sense, though... hm.]

Really? Does that mean I'm the odd one? [Yamato supposes it does. Shepard seems to understand people in general a lot better than he does--but then, she is a god.

Well, it's fine. As long as Yamato understands what she needs from him, that's what's most important. And he likes hearing her talk about space and computers, even if he doesn't understand a word of it.

More importantly, it's time to get down to business ~~to defeat the huns~~. He nods in response to her question, drawing his sword with care. He looks down at it thoughtfully, examining the blade as he decides just where to begin.]

When I started training Commander-kun, she didn't even know how to hold me. [He explains, forgetting to mention that his vessel form is a sword.] We'd have to start with that, it's difficult to wield a sword if you cut your foot off.

[DIFFICULT BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.]

After that, stance is the most important thing, and then I suppose it would be best to start with basic strikes--

[As he speaks, he settles into his stance, demonstrating just what he's talking about.]

--but pairing students together, hm... that will depend on the skill levels we have and the number of students. [A slash, a block, a counterstrike.] Beginners should be paired with more advanced students.

Could you? That would be great, thank you. And no, you're not odd. Everyone sees things differently.

[As he begins, Elsa stands over by a wall, giving him plenty of room to show off. She is able to guess that his vessel form is a sword, given what they're discussing, and given Hakkai's is also a sword.

She follows along as he talks and demonstrates, falling into principal mode, job interviewer mode.]

That sounds good. What if there are more inexperiences students than advanced ones? How would you handle that?

[Hm. Yamato gets the feeling he's heard something like that before--as well as the polar opposite of "YEP YOU'RE A WEIRDO".]

There will always be students who learn more quickly than others. [Prodigys, or simply clever kids--he may not have the memory of it exactly, but his time spent by Okita's side in the dojo hasn't been erased, nor have the lessons he learned there.] As long as they demonstrate basic proficiency, anyone who wants to fight should be allowed to do so. One advanced student should be more than capable of sparring with several less experienced students during one class period, and once they've pinpointed something to work on, they can do that on their own, or with a partner. That way, they can fix their own mistakes and help the less experienced students from making them in the first place.

[Some things, of course, will only come with time and practice--foresight, for instance, the ability to know where your opponent is planning to strike before they hit you. But any strike, or any basics of swordplay certainly won't suffer from continuous practice. If they have to have a class of nothing but footwork, so be it. The students might complain, but Yamato will gladly trip them on their faces if they do. Basics are important.]

[Yes. He gets it.]

You're hired.

[Without preamble, without further questioning, and with a wide, sincere smile.] And I'd love to be one of your students. Your class is going to be amazing.

[Yamato blinks, looking surprised--but only for a second. He wouldn't have offered if he was incapable, after all. He hadn't expected her to say no.

The compliment does catch him a bit off-guard, but he simply smiles and bows his head in gratitude.]

I'll work hard to make sure it lives up to your expectations.

[He's confident, he's skilled, and he's sensitive to students' needs. What more could Elsa ask for in a teacher?]

I'm sure it will. Thank you for doing this.
