I need advice. I have been given the most terrible secret in the world, and the person I confide in most, whose opinion I would normally seek in this circumstance, is the one who I must keep the secret from.

I am very good at keeping secrets, but I am not nearly as good at bearing things alone as I used to be. Without knowing who I can trust not to tell this person, it's left me in a predicament.

Which means, I suppose, I am asking for help.

You can't share the secret with the one you want to. Therefore, keeping it is your only option.

There are those who spread the 'truth' in the name of it, not caring whom they hurt in the process. Would you consider them better than those who know when to stay silent?

I can't help that it feels wrong. I want to do better for her.

Then be honest with her in other ways, if you can. It won't erase the secret, but it will build trust.

Eventually, if you do the same with others, you may find someone with whom you can discuss this matter. Or the strength to carry this on your own.
