[Loss is not something Sonic has a lot of experience with. For all the hardship in his life, he never really had a lot to lose. As an adult he avoided connections, as a child... well, even if he couldn't remember, he had to learn how to be independent somehow, right? Grief wasn't even something he knew how to deal with, but he could gather from media that support and comforting items were the correct things to apply to people experiencing loss and grief.]
[He didn't think about why he was the one offering support and cookies to Sora when he had other, closer friends to do it. He didn't think about the vague fear settled in the back of his head regarding what he would do if Sora someday disappeared as he collected as many soft Pepperidge Farm cookies and Oreos as he could stuff into a grocery bag. He very purposefully repressed those thoughts and feelings because he didn't want to think about what he was doing, or what it meant he was becoming.]
[He didn't want to admit that he was becoming as soft as the cookies he was carrying, and it only took three weeks and a trio of determined teenagers. God, but he was weak.]
[He pushed it all down even further when he arrived at Baldr's temple, stepping inside as if he belonged there.]
[Sora calls back from the living room. He's sitting on the couch upside down, his feet danging off the back of the couch and his head near the floor. Feeling the blood rush to his head kind of feels cool.
It was a strange day for Sora. One moment everything was normal (as normal as his life way anyway) and the next it was like something was missing. He didn't really know what to do with himself right now.
He didn't feel sad. He didn't feel happy. He just felt weird.]
[He shrugs, scootching closer to Sora and draping himself around Sora's shoulders]
I wasn't doing anything. I would have brought Ino, but he's pretty worn out from all the socializing he's been doing today. I'm going to go shopping to get pet supplies tomorrow.
[When Sonic puts his arm around Sora he actually feels a rush of relief. It felt nice to just be near someone that he cared about. That wasn't going to go poof all of a sudden.]
You should get him...a cool collar. [Sora comments quietly.]
Already on top of that, actually. [he shrugs, giving Sora a small smirk] There was a glittery purple one I saw when I was picking up supplies for Motoki, and I just... couldn't resist it. I figured I could wear it as a bracelet, if Ino never showed up.
Oh-! Genos's new cat. Motoki the Conquerpurr. [He doesn't care if the pun isn't actually a part of the name, he likes it, so he's using it] I picked up some supplies for him in exchange for a chance to play with the kitten.
She's... [He bites his lip, cupping his chin thoughtfully] Well, her title is certainly apt, anyway.
[Sora stares for a moment then bursts out laughing,] Is that the cat that Genos put in his chest? That’s sweet name.
[He would have inserted his own cat puns, but he wasn’t feeling very creative at the moment.] Everyone’s got cool pets and stuff, maybe I should get one.
[Because Riku’s cat didn’t like him very much. It was pretty much always stuck to Riku. But with Ventus gone, the only pet he'd really want right now were his dream eaters.]
Yes. Apparently Saitama came up with the name Motoki, then Genos and Add collaborated on the title. [He rolls his eyes, pouting for a moment before a small smirk tugs at his lips] And me. I added the pun, which is obviously the most important part of the name.
Well, you can always play with Ino or one of the others, I'm sure. Pets are a lot of responsibility, you know. You shouldn't get one just because you're feeling left out.
[Not that he doesn't think Sora can handle it, he just doesn't want Sora to do something he ends up regretting later]
[Sora shoves another cookie in his mouth. With his mouth full he garbles,] If you got Ino from your home world maybe one of my dream eaters will show up. They are pretty good at taking care of themselves so it wouldn’t be that much work for me.
[He gives a lazy shrug. Sonic was probably right about getting a pet that needed lots of attention. He was a pretty busy kid and barely slept at his own temple these days even.]
Don't talk with your mouth full. [That's gross, Sora, you're spraying crumbs everywhere]
It might happen. [Sonic shrugs]No one seems to know why people's pets from home started showing up. Personally, I like to think that I wanted to see Ino again badly enough that I brought him here myself. Maybe if you really commit to wanting your dream eaters, they'll show up too.
[Sora listens and swallows slowly and looks down at his feet. If someone wants to see someone badly enough they would show up? Well… If that was the case… It wasn’t really working for Sora. If that was true, Ventus, Kairi, Donald and Goofy would all be here.
