I've never heard of cloud flames, or a box animal. To be honest, I thought you might've had some sort of tiny pet appear, too.

What Bishamon told me is that shinki aren't supposed to learn about their pasts because, for some people, knowing about their deaths can cause them to fall into despair. And that causes blight, of course.
[And, since despair is harder to repent of than simple guilt, Hakkai's not sure something like that even could be fixed. It would be deeply dangerous.]
Simply remembering something you can do should be safe.
