Hello, everypony! If I may, I wish to introduce you to a new arrival here in the Far Shore, who might otherwise be unusual enough that you might wonder about her otherwise. [She turns to address, to all appearances, her mane.] Do come out.

[After a moment, a purple-and-orange beak pokes out of the mess, followed by a flame-orange head with bright yellow eyes. This is as far as the bird can manage to get out of that immense mane.]

This is Philomena, and she is a phoenix. I think they are considered mythical to many of you, much as dragons are? I don't often have cause to keep her cooped up, so I hope that if you see her around the Far Shore, you will be courteous to her and as tolerant of her mischief as she deserves. That is, once we get her out of my mane...

Oh yes. Philomena has been my pet for a very long time now, and it truly is good to see her again.

...I did notice you said something about 'mischief' though, so I will not let her charm fool me into letting my guard down~♪

[Celestia smiles regally, while Philomena tips her head slightly. She might do more, but she's still stuck.]

Do I need to come help her get unstuck from your main like I did those training dummies?

I'm sure we'll figure out a way. [Celestia smiles regally as if she's making a royal proclamation, though at the end she glances over to exchange looks with Philomena.] Though I admit it escapes me just precisely what that way is at the moment.

She is my pet, but she is my pet from back home in Equestria. Philomena and I have been together for a very long time now!

And she isn't mythical by Equestrian standards. Rare, certainly, but phoenixes are quite obviously known to us.

My pet is a pig. Do you have pigs where you come from?

Oh yes, we certainly do! Some farms keep them to help locate truffles for us. [Which is, of course, one of the few reasons ponykind would have to keep pigs.]

[Yes, she's well aware that talking ponies are quite unusual. That's been covered many a time.]

[Celestia's mane shifts as Philomena reflexively attempts to return the wave with an entangled wing. The pony glances sidelong, then chuckles sheepishly.]

Sorry. This may not be the best moment for proper greetings from her, but I wanted to make sure nopony thought she was a danger or something odd.

That would be a little strange, having a pet that speaks. Phoenixes are incredibly intelligent, but they are animals still.

[Of course, the difference between 'animals' and 'ponykind', or other dominant Equestria species, is language and nothing more.]
