[The video opens to the image of a pink-haired woman, seated in a soft white chair in a brightly-lit dance studio. With a slightly sad smile, Maria waves a hand at the camera before interlacing her fingers in her lap, manner businesslike despite the obvious emotion behind it.]

I'm sad to say that the co-owner of Sparkle Motion, Barry Goodman, has left this place. As such, the studio and equipment has been left to me, and as of today, I'll be taking charge of Sparkle Motion.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Maria Cadenzavna Eve, and Sparkle Motion is a dance studio and talent agency for anyone of any level of skill. If you want to become a professional, of course we encourage and foster that with public performances and industry experience, but if you just enjoy dance or singing or any kind of performance for the sake of it, the space is available for you too. We have private practice rooms available to rent, and this dance space as well.

Since I'll be taking charge, I wanted to ask for expressions of interest as well. I was considering running a dance class mainly focused on using it as exercise or a way to make your movements more graceful for combat or whatever your needs may be, perhaps twice a week. There would be a small fee to join, but anyone would be welcome regardless of prior dance experience, and you'd be learning things you could take home and add to a regular exercise routine. However, I'd need at least a few people interested to run a proper class, so if you are, please be sure to contact me. If there's enough interest, I'll set up a test class sometime soon.

Exactly. And trust me, I can't imagine anyone's going to judge you if most of the people attending the class will also be beginners.

I'd say it depends more on how they know you. If it's people who know you well, at least the laughing will probably be good-natured?

Maybe. I know for certain that this is nothing like I've ever done or was meant to do, so... that's pretty high in my mind.

Well, if that's the most important part, then shouldn't that mean you worry about it a little less? Doing new things is good.

I think you're underestimating how difficult something can be if I really put my mind to it. [And now there's real humor in his voice to go with his grin.]

You could just use that putting your mind to it to make it easier... [Maria doesn't mind going along with it, since she's not in the brightest of moods with Barry having gone.]

[Yeah. He got that sense. It might have been just enough to tip him over the fence, everything else being equal. He owes Maria at least one, maybe several.]

It depends on what you're doing, doesn't it? [She's never got the impression he makes things harder for himself when it comes to combat, at least, though he does seem to overthink others on occasion.]

I think that breaks down to "when I'm using a sword" and "every other time". [Because she isn't wrong. Combat is where he exists... Which is the problem, isn't it?]

You could always learn how to sword dance. [It's somewhat the obvious response to him choosing a comment like that.]

What's the difference between that and what I do when I'm fighting?

[Serious question.]

I've never properly seen you fight, so I can't exactly answer that question. But I believe sword dancing is generally meant to be decorative. [Not that it couldn't be combative if applied the right way.]

It's hard to imagine, honestly. That techniques and tools meant to cause harm could be viewed as beautiful.

I wonder if there's something deep there.

It's surprisingly common in this world, you'll find. Perhaps it's something for you to look into.
